Ramayana Simplified Part 3

Ramayana Simplified – Part 3

This is the third book among the Ramayana series written by this author. It covers the Aranya Kanda section. Besides summarizing Ramayana in simple language, the author has also provided a lot of his observations.

The word “Aranya” means forest. As the name of the Kanda suggests, it covers Rama’s journey into the deep forest. The events such as Rama’s meeting with various sages, the elimination of Rakshasas, the humiliation of Shurpanakha, and, importantly, the abduction of Sita by Ravana, are covered in this section.

Some of the interesting and lesser-known facts and information that are covered in this book include:

  • We might have studied during our school days that in the early 1900s, Sir J.C. Bose proved that plants have a life cycle. However, Ramayan, which was written thousands of years ago, considers trees and plants as living things.
  • Do you know that the humorous side of Rama ultimately resulted in the War?
  • An interesting tale about the origin of humans, various celestials, trees, birds and animals.
  • Did Ravana follow the Vedic rituals? Else, did he oppose them?
  • The famous Lakshman Rekha – does Ramayana mention that?

Also, this book contains a detailed glossary for Sanskrit and Puranic terms, a thorough introduction which would make even a foreigner understand the basics of Hindu epics and mythology, secondary tales of the epic, the role of animals and birds, the lineage of Rama and Sita, the characters of the epic and the sites where Ramayana took place.
