This blog post by Krishnakumar T K is about the lesser known SOMANGALAM SOMANADHEESWARAR TEMPLE which is located 9 km west of Tambaram.
What a detailed description of the temple! And it is picturised so well that I could make a virtual tour of the temple and have darshan of all the deities there!
So many interesting features about the huge lily pond, Nandi facing the entrance, separate Brahma statue in sitting posture in the Mukha mandapam, Bronze Brahma Sastha, Chatura Tandava Murthi, Koshta deities with their mounts, Dakshinamurthy with Nandi at his feet, absence of Dwarapalakas, Devara Vaippu Stalam, Thondai naattu Navagraha Sthalam for Chandra etc highlighted. Will definitely make one to wish to go to the temple and look for these details.
All the deities are sculpted beautifully and the alankaram is also simple and elegant!
Do have a peep at his blog “Indian Columbus” for more information when you plan to visit a well known temple or a lesser known temple or any other place of interest for that matter!

An inspiring article.
I have never been to all the stone structures found in mAmallapuram. Even the structures, I had been to, (decades ago), weren’t seen by me with the current eye, given to me by people like Gopu.
And, this pancha pandava mandapam is as new to me as an unopened packaged newly released book.
Krishnakumar, ever the meticulous, writes as if his words are the digital images, and as if he is shooting the spectacle, like a camera man. A virtual tour.
A noticeable characteristic of his works is that he creates them for the benefit of others. A genuine interest to share. There are some ‘experts’ who will always keep reminding the readers/viewers “See, How much I know! And, you know nothing. Grow up, man! Grow up!”
A request, sir. If you can add images to explain the domical roof and barrel-vault roof, it will give me a better understanding.

இந்த திடீர் பயணங்களுக்கு சட்டென்று கை கொடுப்பது டி கே கிருஷ்ணகுமாரின் இந்தியன் கொலம்பஸ் ப்ளாக். என்னவொரு மெடிகுலஸ் டாகுமென்டேஷன். ஒவ்வொரு இடத்தைப் பற்றியும் படு விவரமாகப் பதிவுகள். அற்புதமான ஃபோட்டோக்கள் இருக்கும்.
இவர் ப்ளாகில் படித்துப் பார்த்துப் போக வேண்டும் என்று ஆசைப்பட்ட முனீஸ்வரன் கோயிலுக்கே இந்த வருடம் முதல் பயணம். வேளச்சேரி அருகே. அழகான புதுக் கோயில். நன்று வடிவமைக்கப்பட்ட சுதைச் சிற்பங்கள். முனீஸ்வரனும் அட்டகாசமாக இருப்பார்.
