Ramayana Simplified Part 1

Ramayana Simplified – Part 1

There are seven parts in my “Ramayana Simplified” series, each piece covering each Kanda. This book is the first part, in which Bala Kanda is covered. The first edition of the book was published in 2015 CE. This is the third edition.

Summarizing Ramayana in a simplified form and highlighting the hidden ideas and various aspects of the epic are the primary objectives of the series. The book is not a fiction or a retelling of Ramayana. It is more like a supplementary of the original text.

This book contains a detailed glossary for Sanskrit and Puranic terms, a very good introduction which would make even a foreigner understand the basics of Hindu epics and mythology, secondary tales of the epic, the role of animals and birds in Ramayan, the lineage of Ram and Sita, the characters of the epic and the sites where Ramayan took place.

Some of the exciting and lesser-known facts and information that are covered in this book include:

  • Different versions of Valmiki Ramayana (yes, you read it right. The book talks about the different versions of Valmiki Ramayana and not merely the different versions of Ramayana).
  • The practice of addressing the King with his capital city instead of his country
  • The different countries mentioned in Ramayana and their current locations and names
  • The story of the sage who had never seen a girl
  • Which country Kausalya, the mother of Ram, belonged to?
  • The difference between Asuras and Rakshasas
  • How to interpret the years given in Ramayana?
  •  The parents of Vanaras
  • Four incarnations of Vishnu as the sons of Dasharatha. (Not only Rama, but even his three brothers were Vishnu’s incarnations).
  • The difference between Astras and Shastras.
  • One hundred beautiful daughters of a King and their story
  • The interpretation of Ganga’s descent
  • The fight between Vishnu and Shiva
