Jaya: An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata

The Mahabharata, an epic that has resonated with millions for thousands of years, has been retold in various languages, each adding its unique flavors to the original Sanskrit scripture.

In his rendition, the author has simplified the entire epic with a direct and uncomplicated approach. The addition of fitting illustrations enhances the narrative’s appeal, making it more engaging. Rewriting a well-known story to sustain reader interest is no small feat, and credit is due to both Devdutt and Vyas, the original author of the epic, for this remarkable effort.

While appreciating the overall endeavor, it could have been even better with more detailed elaboration in certain sections. Additionally, clear indications differentiating sections from the original Mahabharata and those from other versions would enhance the reader’s understanding, as currently, such details are only provided at a high level.
